  beautiful, slow, brilliant.

  on the first day, I thought of my mom, years ago. every day, she'd pick me up from the playground by the school, we'd come home, the rice cooker already plugged in and the vegetables washed, and everything in order. everything would be the same, and in place, and anytime something was off, I felt it acutely. watching this, I thought: 'oh, I understand now'.

  the second day, I felt slightly horrified and uncomfortable about the disquieting moments…

  the more I think about this film the more endearing it becomes to me. a peaceful meditation on hope and humanity, it simultaneously blurs and magnifies the line between reality and cinema. the lack of a specific "plot" and the focus on the seemingly mundane reflect the realities of our lives, which is then depicted in the production that is being filmed, and on it goes. I've heard so much about Kiarostami's magnificent film endings and this is certainly one…
