Babylon is loud, bombastic, cluttered, sparse, cruel, nostalgic, and much like this opening sentence, far too long. Chazelle wants and manages to do so much with this film, but not all of his wants manage to mesh well together, as different storylines and beats seem to dance to different tunes.
