boring. the Zone's unexact rules get no exploration and have no purpose for metaphor nor plot. if story's not the point, then the movie's too light on theme and philosophy. the most interesting lines, those on aging and the strength of (yielding against) weakness, are just direct taoist quotes. and for traveling all this way to make a wish, there is little mid-journey contemplation on the characters' true desires. i've been more moved and thought-provoked while reading kanye west meltdowns…
