The performances feel so sincere and well done, but there is something so muted about the aesthetic, making it difficult to feel that the setting is lived-in, even if the actors’ performances are heartfelt. I am struggling to articulate my issue with Tiger Baby Productions and their aesthetic, but there seems to be a tension between the sophistication and mutedness of the visual grammar, and the story that gets folded into it, and eventually becomes sanitised. The colours and camera work create a fog over the story, rather than service it, I suppose?
I think the idea that if a Robot were to evolve to be human-like they would be inclined towards the capacity to love, care and preserve is so utterly hopeful and beautiful that its heartbreaking.
A good reminder of why meet-cutes absolutely rule and dating apps absolutely suck.
