Entertaining and cute, but I felt like it started to drag and had one too many story arcs.
Has some really beautiful cinematography - not just the colorful vistas of nature, but there were some really quiet contemplative ones in there.
Also the ending is absolutely crazy. She just gets mind wiped and turned into a slave…? And we’re supposed to be happy about it? Like you spent the last act saying the humans were going to analyze her memories…
Charming and fun over the top social commentary bundled into a heist movie.
I appreciated this movie for its focus on beautiful architecture and the cinematography that framed it. It was unique in the way that they tried to make these sites/buildings into their own characters for you to get to know and love.
In a twist of irony though, every actual character in this movie is about as flat and lifeless as a sterile office building. Dialogue is colorless and awkward, as if they were reading off the notes on a storyboard.…
I want to like this movie because of the Asian representation in both content and actors, but the 90s cheese/hallmark-esque dialogue really was unbearable. All the conflicts were resolved with a dramatic theatrical monologue and no follow up or conclusion.
Overall I’m glad it exists though - it tackles a widespread family dynamic amongst one demographic and contextualizes it for everyone else.
