i'm a weirdo.
i only score movies i have seen recently enough to give a score that accurately represents my thoughts.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
to me, what this movie is about, is that every human is equally capable of both compassion and senseless cruelty, and it's our job as people to make an effort to spread love and compassion where and when we can, because there will always be someone out there being cruel.
what a loving person David Lynch must've been.
rewatched with a friend to start the year. i really think i undersold how well this movie uses visuals to communicate things the first time i watched it, you could watch it without sound and understand almost everything.
we watched it subbed, it was a fun experience but the subtitling was based on the dub script which added a bunch of extra lines. i hate translation discourse as much as the next person but genuinely the amount of extra dialogue…
Another animated soviet propaganda film, this one covers the Chinese struggle against western imperialism. Honestly I quite liked this one, as blunt and crude as it was. It is to this day not uncommon to see the imperialist movements of the time downplayed in their severity, so seeing something that very bluntly expresses how bad what was happening to China was and have it be something created during those events is a little refreshing.
A complete appreciation of all that is existence. i laughed, and i cried. it made me happy, it made me sad, and it made me feel various other chemical reactions in my strange brain. The way it tells its story might not click with everyone, but those it does click with will probably love it.
Do yourself a favor and watch it.
