Dysfunctional father-son relationships are pretty much Bollywood's bread and butter. There's a long lineage of such films: from masterpieces like Shakti right down to atrocities like Animal.
Despite a few pitfalls such as a slow screenplay, Boman Irani's directorial debut is a welcome addition in this tradition of Hindi films. It's fresh. It has something to say (albeit nothing new) but it's written with a pen that cares.
