A lack of emotional depth in the story is made up for with meticulously crafted shots, unsettling imagery, and Willem Dafoe.
While Lily-Rose Depp is the clear standout performance as pointed out by other Letterboxd reviewers, I found her performance to be all too dramatic for my liking even though I’m certain this is what the source material demanded. Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be my pick as a standout for delivering the most nuance out of such a conflicted character.
