If Beale Street Could Talk 2018
The stylistic choices that Barry Jenkins makes with the visuals and the structure of the film felt too Hollywood which takes the substance away from the original subject material. Though the story feels bedazzled, I'm glad he didn't give it a Hollywood ending because that wouldn't have been realistic. Though I don't agree with the direction of this movie, I still think it is a good example of how the racist incarceration system targets Black men, both then and now.
