i thought the core concept of this movie was really strong and was handled fairly well. the idea that, now that there is a mickey 18, mickey 17 can die "for real" is a great little thought experiment. they absolutely nailed the creatures (simultaneously disgusting and adorable). the feel of the ship was also good, and i really believed that mickey and nasha were in love.

not sure how many stars to give a movie like this. i definitely enjoyed it, but i also left the theater somewhat confused as to what it was trying to say. maybe i'm dumb, maybe i need to see it again. dylan's apparent embrace of rock and roll could have been read a million different ways, and maybe that was the point. personally, i thought it made bob dylan look like a jackass chasing the next high.

hadnt seen this since i was a child. i forgot how INSANELY goofy it is at times. this is especially true of the fight scenes. honestly, the way the dialogue switches so rapidly between legitimately profound and cringe-inducing is incredible.
if you watch this with someone who has never seen it, there is a good chance they will have been assuming that the matrix is some sort of high cinema. it is important to tell them that they should be expecting an over the top action movie, lest they walk away disappointed and disturbed.

i think there is a surprising amount to say about this movie. the contextless civil war is not what i would have wanted, but i appreciate the commentary this lack of context makes on what war is like for people on the ground. i thought the sound design was great, and the action sequences in general were a blast. the jesse plemons sequence alone boosts this movie a half star for me; it feels so high stakes and unpredictable. i…
