Meeting the Man: James Baldwin in Paris 1970
What a powerful man Baldwin was. He turned the tables on the presumptions and falsehoods of the film crew and crafted something entirely and utterly moving. Brilliant.

The Brutalist caught me by surprise. I went in virtually blind, with only the summary to go off of, and I came out of the screening rocked to my core.
Power, American Exceptionalism, and Proletarian Exploitation; all caught in the blast of this epic piece that explores each thoroughly. Laszlo’s own experiences and practices that are innate to his life as an immigrant, a Jew, and a working artist are dumbed down, belittled, and misunderstood by Van Buren.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 2014

Not terrible but definitely forgettable — kind of the same quality as I remembered. Worse than the first two movies.
I really wish they just made a big 3.5 hour film. Two parts really weren’t necessary and made everything feel a lot more filler-ish than it had to, especially on this first part. I still liked it, but man. I could’ve fallen asleep for an hour, woken up, and still understood everything that was happening. Shaving away an hour would’ve also allowed more screen time for the aftermath of Part 2, which I REALLY wanted to see.
