Ivan's Childhood 1962
a wholly unique anti-war film. ivan’s childhood is dreamlike; i think i hallucinated the second half. the tight aspect ratio keeps the atmosphere confined, so a lot of imagery is packed onto the screen at once. in turn, every shot is gorgeous. the camera complements the beautiful shots especially well. it moves effortlessly, which keeps the film flowing smoothly for the most part. a landmark in anti-war psychedelia. watch it, fr.
