I usually hate to say this:
the book is better than the film.this film tries to keep a mysterious vibe by using time jumps but fails miserably in telling the reality of the story.
the way the family was murdered doesn't pass, also his wandering feels almost logical. I remember a passage of the book saying he spent an entire day on a hill in his car doing nothing, not reading, eating... meanwhile we see him having fun...

Some scene are sad, but at the same time this film didn't really strike me.
