I think about how I used to write off a movie like this - one that looks to juxtapose a standard trope but doesn’t tie it up in the most perfect bow. Maybe this movie does that intentionally and gives the viewer just enough to chew on. Maybe it’s simply not that well executed of a movie. Regardless, it left me intrigued, and that counts for a lot nowadays.

How many times can you say "a modern day Taxi Driver"?
The first half felt of the film felt formulaic. The second half really opened up some nuance.
Jonathan Majors killed it.

Amsterdam 2022
Going into this film, I saw the reviews and was intrigued; David O. Russell with a poorly rated film? Granted, I never saw "I Heart Huckabees", but still. "The Fighter", "American Hustle", "Silver Linings Playbook". Those are enough films stringed together to suddenly release a film that plummets to the 40s on Metacritic. It's not that deep, but at the same time, I can see why.
"Amsterdam" was a flawed film, mostly towards the conclusion. There was a political message…

A Real Pain 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
1. Kieran Culkin does a great job of playing an emotionally, sporadic character.
2. I loved Jesse Eisenberg’s monologue at the dinner table, more so because of the acting than the dialogue. It felt real.
3. The subject matter is solid. It’s a steady film that misses that extra punch, but I still appreciate it for what it is.
