The movie is a MUST watch, its so obfuscated and weird and you almost re-experience the movie in a different way each time you watch it.
This time around i enjoyed seeing the way family relations was really put under a dim spotlight but still extensively explored. Howcome each member of this family feels justified but also awry?
Really really good for a watch but after your first year of letterboxd you need something more than just dramatic french people in costumes and an whirlwind plot to keep you actually engaged.
a movie seldom provides an alternative perspective into the innate nature of mankind. This is one of those rare movies.
(If you're not absolutely fluent in french you must turn the subtitles on because there s a lot of conlang in this movie which, unlike its contemporaries, goes a long way for the world building)
I thought that this was an intentionally boring movie and the reason for this is that the social interractions on the script have a sense of formality, decorum and risk-aversion that real life conversations occasionally have. As cinema and theatre are often obsessed with the dramatic, obscene or interesting, it does feel engaging to see the timid sides of life through a screen. Its hard to empathise with a superhero who delivers a well enunciated one-liner when most people even speak up during meetings.
