Of the films nominated this year, this would be my selection for Best Picture. It's extraordinary.

Nuremberg: Its Lesson for Today 1948
I don't know if I've ever felt a movie truly changed me—but this one left me so stunned and unnerved that I haven't stopped thinking about it, particularly in light of the world's unhappiness today. It's hard to find; I watched it on TCM, but it's also available on Amazon Prime (which is sort of ironic, under the circumstances) with a seven-day trial to Kino-Lorber, and on physical media for ordering. It is worth EVERY effort you may have to undertake to find it. It's devastating and truly, genuinely extraordinary.

The Searchers 1956
As complicated and disturbing as ever, but magnificent on the big screen in a newly struck 70mm print.

(Complete disclosure: I've worked on this film as the publicist for its release. I'm biased.) But each time I watch, it grows on me and gets more fulfilling as I accept its quirks and odd rhythms and fall under its gentle little spell. Its story of coping with catastrophic loss and coming to terms with life-altering grief is one that feels unusually compelling and meaningful right now. With some beautiful photography, evocative music and pitch-perfect central performances, it's got a lot to recommend it. You can take it from me. Even though I'm biased!
