the beginning of the film flowed a bit choppy for me. some camera angle choices were nauseating, some sporadic, and some were entirely too close. i loved everything else about this film. i loved the portrayal of culture, the political and social messages, the storyline, and the balance of action and comedic relief. there were so many perfectly timed lines and scenarios. fair warning though, this film is pretty explicitly violent if you couldnt already tell from the trailers.. but it gets up close and personal with the violence in a quite literal sense. sentimental, emotional, gruesome, violent, chaotic, meticulous, and absolutely worth the watch.
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
first off, hot. katy o'brien and kristen stewart could be lovers in any type if film and id watch it. second, weird af. the muscle growth close ups and other cinematic portrayals of the euphoric experiences got super strange. the gruesome scenes were gruesome asl (james franco deserved it 100%, but they didnt have to show that mans jaw like that). TLDR: my gay heart loved it, its just a very strangely portrayed film that is not for the easily squeamish.
i really appreciated the nostalgia elements of the old crew and the cgi/animation details. it was really good for what it was. some of the acting fell pretty flat, but it was good enough of a film to appreciate. mckenna grace was phenomenal casting, imo.
100% yes. i loved this film. i loved the awkwardness. i loved the emotions. the story telling was great, and i would absolutely watch this film again. for sure a new holiday tradition film for me.
