have you ever thought about what Auschwitz smelled like?
a friend described this as hard but “necessary” to watch—fully agree. blown away by the way this movie forces a sensory experience—sound, to me, is the main character. the technique with which a more conventional approach to storytelling is combined with experimental (and experiential) filmmaking is excellent. the more experimental moments serve to relieve the overwhelming cognitive dissonance provoked by watching scenes of children frolicking while listening to screams and the mechanical roar of the gas chambers.Translated from by
