Howl's Moving Castle 2004
Put a gun to my head and ask me to name my three favorite movie; I’m saying Howl’s Moving Castle first. I have every frame committed to memory and sometimes if I can’t sleep I’ll play the movie in my head from the beginning to aid me. Genuinely perfect on so many fronts! A gentle introduction to animation and a beautiful encapsulation of all things Miyazaki does well, from benign romance, to fantastical realism, to emotion, to atmosphere. I consider it Miyazaki’s pièce de résistance. A close-to-perfect movie, and a fun one too.
