This movie takes every creature feature and apocalypse trope imaginable and smashes them together into a weird and confusing nothing burger. Monsters with no discernible origin swarming the earth? Check. Single parent raising two kids in a dangerous world? Check. The two main characters being an asocial brainiac and a physically capable ladies man? Check. Someone needs medicine back home so we have to leave the safety of the camp? Check. Romeo Juliet plot line of two neighboring hide outs?…

I really enjoyed this movie. It’s super camp and deeply unsettling. As someone who hates body horror and gore, I could actually easily stomach this piece. It’s just passable to still make you uncomfortable but not too in your face that you have to look away. Also the message and symbolism throughout are amazingly executed.
It was fun, campy and hilarious. My only complaint is that it was too short. I had seen some clips and the movie poster and I was under the impression that their injuries would be the inciting incident. I thought the movie would be the two having to do various things in the outside world while hiding their undead nature, yada yada, hijinks ensue. I was a little disappointed when I realized that the one girl gets the hole in her stomach well past the halfway point. If it was maybe an hour longer and had its pacing remapped it could truly be amazing.
