tragic film, weaving the complex story of complex grief. memorable, heart wrenching, and well done.

full of visual magic. the storyline introduced in the beginning is not representative of what is to come. this movie had rich layers that get peeled back one at a time in a story of devolving sanity and tragic love. this would be amazing to see performed on the stage! save for a disturbing torture scene and unnerving licking scene, it’s a mellow and intriguing old film

A truly ridiculous and maximalist “student becoming teacher” trope meets “wild western style action” in the era of colonialism, industrial classism, and patriarchy! classic action style movie with plenty of cheesy fight scenes and romance.

+ choreographed fight scenes verging on comedic (a la the style of pirates of the caribbean 1 or a recent james bond movie)

    - some of the characters (like Zorro?) have British accents?? sooo many white guys playing Mexicans

    + the score

    - the shitty “fight scene turned gaudy eroticism” scene in the barn

+ the ridiculous chase scene at the end
    worth seeing once!

Prickly biopic of an old man. Some heavy shit man. Watching him grapple openly with the existential dilemmas of life, death, and old age — makes you think, man.
