Overshadowed by Shiva Baby for obvious reasons , the aspect ratio gimmick is probably the most notable thing here, and it’s successful to some extent when it is used for effect but doesn’t add much value across the film.
That being said, I’d definitely watch more from Olivia Peace, interesting perspective and clear talent, the premise and script here are just paper thin.
Entertaining and heartfelt albeit with a heavy dose of artifice. I think this does have something to say about the loss of community art spaces even outside of the COVID context, which makes it more meaningful than its pure entertainment value.
Kudos to the Rio in Vancouver for doing two screenings - I hope they manage to do a few more at less stupid times. Despite being an 11am screening it was nearly sold out.
Not only one of the best documentaries of the year, but one of the best films. Somehow, despite limited infrastructure and limited post budget, the film has a distinct look that contains more evocative images than most films this year.
