Great performances.
Overall a film that everyone will interpret a different way. Themes of sexual freedom, lesbianism and life and death punctuate the movie throughout.
First off, it is important to recognize the huge risks the director took to make this movie. He is now in exile in Germany with two out of the four principal actors barred from leaving Iran to attend the premiere.
The film does a great job in focusing on the suppression of women's freedoms that is taking place in Iran and the recent protests against the regime. However for those who are at least a bit aware of current affairs…
I hadn't seen the musical but I had heard vaguely about it including being able to recognize one of the musical numbers.
A bit predictable who the villains would turn out to be but otherwise a lovely first part about what divides, unites us and even reflections on how we treat animals. Can't wait for part 2.
Nice twist on the whole talking animals teaming up formula. Sci-fi wise nothing groundbreaking, ideas borrowed from many sources both past and present. Nice animation.
Plot gets a bit bogged down by slapstick jokes and humour but all in all a surprisingly poignant tale about motherhood, surrogate motherhood, and the need to belong.
