i hate fascism and war as much as the next queer, and this was obviously beautiful, the effort love and creativity that went into this film is indisputable and puts mega corporations with more resources but hollow copy paste movies to shame (HACK HACK DISNEY). however, idk i was a little disappointed. the pacing was a little weird, the plot was kind of thin, there was several noticeable loose ends, and the ending was a little quick and left me…

wooooooooooah how original. if i wanted two uninspired teens to fall in love and mope about it while battling a personal lethal force i would watch the fault in our stars and hate the dialogue a little less. the best things about the book: the personality of finch, their love, and insight into mental illness is mistranslated into quirky teenage angst that handles dark themes as ham-fisted as someone with their hand down a pigs throat. it honestly wasn’t that bad i just have no outlet for roasting things watch it if you want people i respect watched it and liked it.

we all knew satan was an old white man, we all wanted the bugs from coraline to have a dance number, and we all felt that cats had lesbian vibes. this film is visually stunning, a true labour of love, with themes of identity, madness, ambition, and family. It inspired and disturbed me to the point i had a hard time falling asleep. this is a film about losing yourself to your ambitions and desires and the hopelessness we all feel in the face of failure and being alone, and how we can overcome it.
