This film opens with our protagonist's father getting cucked, and after spending £15 to see it, I felt an overwhelming sensation that I had been cucked out of a much better movie. This film is mediocre to the highest standard - I just cannot understand the hype around it and it's half baked story and characters. Despite it's clear message, almost every character save for Erivo's Elpheba come off as totally one (or at best two) dimensional and either boring…

Kurt Vonnegut once said that "You don't do art for any other reason than to help your soul grow." - clearly Dwayne Johnson has never had a similar thought and this film is proof of that fact. Never before has such utter slop been produced - if this were food, to feed it to a hog would be considered animal abuse.

This movie starts of incredibly strong, with a great build up of tension and suspense which is complimented by Nicholas Cage's absolutely jawdropping performance - however, avoiding spoilers, the twist in the third act totally kills the momentum, fear and any sense of stakes the movie had, essentially leaving it dead in the water. This film had such incredible potential, but like it's clear inspiration, Sinister, falls short of greatness.

Fully unironically a cinematic masterpiece. A criminally underrated gem of the 2000s, that, while not the tightest or wittiest in its writing, maintains such a level of self-awareness and unseriousness in itself that the humor works. This film does, however, require you to fully buy into the gimmick, and understand that you are watching a live action Scooby Doo film that is not meant to be taken seriously. Great movie.
