On Becoming a Guinea Fowl 2024
an extremely intelligent and perceptive film which every time you think it will rest in a niche of thought or feeling will subvert it and show you a differing perspective. i think this could have been a somewhat narrow commentary on individual evil and abuse, but its always large scope never makes its ideas feel superficial. always keeping systemic and institutional injustices in mind makes this feel coldly detached at points, which both helps and hinders the movie's impact - certainly a confusing and mysterious but illuminating film which will stick in my head 🤓

a movie made all the more perfect through it's jagged imperfections - lynch's perspective just gives this earnest vulnerability and openness to a story and cast of characters who embrace the world, even while accepting the brutal darkness of it. nic cage is fucking silly too like this is a fun movie come on there's nothing i can't love here
