Witty and philosophical with elements of dark humor. Overt and subtle anti-French and anti colonial messaging throughout (shoutout to the flag-bearing monkey). Some beautiful landscape shots of rural Senegal, and interesting use of low-angle shots. Great music by Wasis Diope, the younger brother of Membéty. Overall, compelling, enjoyable watch. Highly quotable.
