  I rewatched this with Michael Apted's commentary on, and it highlighted the start of some of the Bond franchise's recurring problems going forward. The director overthought the Bond formula, trying to imbue a reality and depth to his film at the expense of fun. For example, he introduced the 'M as plot device' trope to the series, which has never worked for me. To be fair, 'Licence to Kill' did something similar with Q, but Apted wanted to give M's…
