I liked that the focus isn’t on gore but rather plot, but the fantastical elements take away from what could have been a truly chilling psychological thriller. Even keeping with the supernatural, satanic theme— there are ways to tie it into reality in a way that blurs lines and leaves the audience questioning their OWN realities. They did not achieve that and instead it all feels silly the more that details are revealed, regardless of the writers and producers’ intentions. An entertaining film nonetheless. I enjoyed the ambiguity of the ending.

The Love Witch 2016
Definitely an underlying rosemary’s baby vibe that I can see they were going for but something about it just missed the mark. While I understand the satirical nature of Elaine’s character I believe they could’ve made her character less flat while still maintaining the same message.

The Florida Project 2017
This movie portrays so much raw emotion, the balance between the innocence and playfulness of the children, and the dark realities the adults around them face (which is reflected in the contrasting scene setups) and the love portrayed between mother and daughter, coupled with the tragic ending… it really makes you see “grey”, rather than black and white. It goes from heart-filling to heart-wrenching and I would give anything to watch this movie again for the first time.
