Well made movie, lots of thought put into lighting and blocking. Decently interesting message to the story, however felt it was kind of loose and left you disconnected. Little to no investment in any of the characters. Acting was ok and dialogue got the job done. Definitely revolutionary in some of the techniques used and interesting sets. Understandable why lots of people like and respect it in this regard.
Meh. Barry Levinson has a fantastic story with Diner and Tim Men feels like he then realized he could stretch it out and make more money by retelling the same sort of story set 10 years later. It feels flat and half-hearted in comparison to Diner. However, fantastic detail to accurately represent the time period and fun, subtle allusions to how times and styles have changed since the Diner era.
One of my favorite movies of all time. Absolutely fantastic story with a beautiful and important message that is central to life. Acting performances are stunning by Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. On the technical side, it's nothing flashy but it gets the job done, by effectively telling this story so that the emotion of this great story shines through. Intricate set design and very realistic looking fake snow (new process developed to film this movie). Even though a little silly at moments, love everything this movie stands for and is. It shows why filmmaking is important.
Terry Gilliam is a filmmaker plain and simple. It's surprising to see the contrast between this and his work in Monty Python. This movie captures the dark and hopeless of feel of George Orwell's 1984 without being quite so graphic. The psychological horror is terrifying, but I believe this movie could have been even more effective without the overtop horror of creepy baby masks etc. used in parts. Very dismal movie good to see once but probably never again.
