One time, in the subway I set my expensive bag of whole foods groceries on top of the closed dumpster like a moron, and when the bag started to move I freaked out only to see the cutest lil baby rat staring up at me with a piece of $6 cut pineapple in his lil baby hands. I couldn't even be mad. He was really cute.

I left the whole bag of groceries.

a bitingly funny, unsettling allegorical horror that feels at times both too real and too fantastical. Juel Taylor's debut is full of creeping paranoia, immersive, authentic world building and pitch perfect performances (Particularly Teyonah Parris who walks away with the movie) The beginning of the third act kind of undercuts the climax but the movie is so good and so often laugh-out-loud funny its a minor complaint. the first of Jarmusch's two love letters to Le Samourai (the second being Limits of control) With a much less problematic lead than Alain Delon) Beautifully shot in the most basic of landscapes. Its a story about connection more than killing. About what makes us human beyond the brutality of life. And as much as I love Forest Whitaker, I gotta say: everything about Isaach de Bankolé is a work of art.

For someone who drops "Thunderdome" in conversation, for no good goddamn reason with the frequency I do, you'd think I would have seen it.

    I watched it for Tina.

Super enjoyed it but I love hamfisted 80's action cheese and think there is no comedy quite so elite as a terrible smell, so I might not be the best barometer.

You can almost detect the exact moment a bump of cocaine derailed any sense the script was trying to make -and honestly? that's what makes movies like this so special.
