Far too often movies take the easy road with easy targets, painting real humans with broad strokes. Sing Sing never preaches its message, it just humanizes those who are almost never given that opportunity. A lot of folks talk about representing marginalized people in art and media, but few works have done so as effectively and respectfully as this film. A humbling, sobering, and powerful testament to human resilience and recovery.

Love Lies Bleeding 2024
Great acting by Stewart and Helms can’t save the nonsensical and convoluted second half. Tries to be Lynchian but it does so at the expense of everything else the film seems to want to be. Its surrealist excursions come off as jarring and muddy an engaging queer thriller into something it just doesn’t excel at.

Schindler's List 1993
This doesn’t pull any punches, it beats you over the head with a baseball bat, and deservingly so.
I put off watching this for many years. “It's too daunting” I’d tell myself. But after watching Schindlers List, nothing in our comfortable lives feels worthy of that word. Films like this make you wonder why people ever bothered coming up with ghost stories, humanity is terrifying enough.
