Somewhat carried by Giamatti’s excellent performance, with Da’Vine Joy Randolph also delivering a solid role. There’s a bit of fluff at points, especially the house party scene—the romance between Tully and Elise was awkward to watch and incredibly contrived, serving no purpose to the overarching story. The subplot involving Tully’s father distracted from the core relationship between Tully and Paul solely to create brief dramatic tension. Overall, it’s still a decent watch, but nothing outstanding.
