A simple but charming look into the wonder and playful world of tabletop games and the people who play them. I really appreciated how it showcased a full range of those in the hobby. From first time designers, to industry vets, and even the competitive scene. While it's wasn't a revolutionary documentary for me it was a joy to see this hobby that I enjoy be so enthusiastically shared with others.
This is a film I wished I liked more. It's a fun throw back to classic gangster flicks with a phenomenal cast who nail all of their scenes, but unfortunately I found myself unable to really get invested into the plot. The energy of the story was so weak it felt almost asleep at points. The movie arrived, showed me some cool scenes, and then just wilted off into the early morning fog of Harlem.
Some documentaries are shocking exposes about dire topics, while others are droll lectures. Some though are delightful little pieces on lighter, sillier side of life. Dress A Cow fits that mold perfectly as a playful view into a small town tradition that just might encourage you to get into bovine beauty pageants.
My friend Katey forced me to watch this at gun point. She'll say that I "willing" watched this movie, that we were just "having fun". But know I didn't want this.
To be fair though, their parody of the truck scene did get me real good, so I guess we're cool.
