  this movie is unbelievably self aware and witty. the cartoonish, plastic-y colours of the city match the playful ridiculousness of many sequences in “asteroid city”, and the stark black and white of the real-er fictional world of the play’s production match the profound(?) insights which undercut the wandering plotline. the line between profound and ridiculous is being towed here. 

  anyways i’d better giv it a rewatch and see what if i can parse anything else. why does he burn his hand on the grittle? can i be satisfied with things happening because they do?
