The Substance 2024
This movie was perfectly disturbing and innately disconcerting. The cinematography had a lot to offer towards affecting the psyche with its straight-on and close-up angles. The opening scene, where an egg yolk splits in half, was unexpectedly tense due to it’s sound and color grading—a truly impressive feat, as this would have otherwise been banal. The film has definite commentary on the modern beauty industry and what it has become (at least, regarding BBL’s, Botox, weight loss shots, cosmetic surgeries, etc). If you can handle gore and an inevitably uneasy movie-watching experience, I completely recommend.
