some pretty funny moments in this one - John Malkovich and Ayo Edebiri are fantastic!! BUT, i do feel like the general plot was pretty predictable and not terribly new or shocking. it had stroooong The Menu vibes and you could kind of tell from the outset that like Anya in that one, Ayo would be surviving the end of this film. Took away a lot of the suspense.

i’m a fan of whiplash and la la land so I came in to babylon with high hopes. sadly despite some solid scenes and pretty visuals the film never came together for me. every individual storyline was only explored at surface-level, and the story as a whole was way too meandering to make any sense. it didn’t feel like chazelle even knew what it was that he wanted to convey to us. i was bored and disappointed.…
quite the disappointment to be frank. letterboxed seems to be eating this one up but to me it was boring as hell. All the characters were one dimensional and i couldn’t get myself to give a shit about the all important crumbling of sam’s parents’ marriage at the centre of it all because of it. Don’t even get me started on Michelle Williams’s extreme overacting…
