AMC has the most tone deaf trailer programming I have ever seen, but maybe thats because they, like half the audience, don't realize that this movie is actually violent as hell. I was tickled by the audible gasps as heads popped off and arms were rendt from bodies.

Regardless, I never get tired of this one. My all time favorite Ghibli film.

    Screening: AMC IMAX.

Despite everything that it has going for it, the writing is worse than a soap opera. It lacks the charm of better gialli and relies on being overly mean spirited. Every character is almost comically cruel. Sometimes that works --New York Ripper for example-- but here it just feels tedious and tiresome.

That said, it has great production design and a killer score.

I remember feeling a bit disappointed with the first cut/release of Twixt, starting with the inexplicable shortening of the working title, now restored in the newly released "authentic cut", B'Twixt Now and Sunrise.

The film does still suffer from it's low budget constraints, but Kilmer, Dern, and Fanning are all quite entertaining to watch and the dream sequences have a Lynchian feeling to them punctuated by Dan Deacon's musical sensibilities.

All said and done it's a curious entry in Coppola's…

There's a lot of interesting ideas mashed together here, but it doesn't quite hit the mark of a masterful giallo. Still, it gets points for style and effort.
