The caption motion never fails in Wes Anderson movies. It makes the story feel distant and yet so near. So cold but it burns in your brain. The language barrier feels like music, it makes every other gesture and signal that much stronger. The innocent search for a loved one is strengthened by the childlike reckless and selflessness. Chief’s colors highlight his character’s change of perspective and his opening up to the boy’s caring behavior.

The relatability of this film showed what a girl like me searches for in a relationship. Someone who sees through whatever we see as bad or negative about ourselves, but not in a demeaning manner. We see the reality of the relationship between the two from the very beginning. How his rudeness becomes admiration is truly heartwarming. It gave me hope for real, soft, innocent love.
