I don't think Mike Judge's style of comedy works for me.
this genuinely feels like a series of "and then..." strung together for ninety pages. it holds your hand on everything and I just feel bored watching it.
I feel like I would've enjoyed this more before I was radicalised.

y'know, I've actually never seen a buddy cop film besides this. the genre has never interested me, and seeing this as my first years back really ruined any others for me. the cultural homogeneity subtext really goes a long way too.
it's obvious, but Edgar Wright knows how to make and stylise a film. all of his (that I've seen) are just so much fun and oddly comforting. something I don't see talked as much is that his scripts are some of the tightest out there. everything is purposeful and no stone goes unturned.
it's antiquated in a fun way. lore consistency hasn't been established yet so there's a lot of throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks.
it's strange to see the Hartnell Doctor's behaviour, but it's a welcome change of pace from what I know.
this film is like lightning in a bottle with how good it is. I'm very glad I got to experience it in theatres for my first viewing.
the characters are probably my favourite part about it. Andy and Red are wonderful co-leads. I LOVE how they slowly peeled the curtain back from the Warden, showing how messed up he is. Having Hadley be that awful straight from the start gave the illusion that the Warden was "better" than Hadley, only…
