I was rather surprised with how much I enjoyed watching this film. Knowing previously that this film was an early sound film, I had my doubts about the quality of sound and the way it would impact the film. The film was, however, incredibly well made and engaging. While there were some scenes in the film that ran a bit too long, the film as a whole did a great job building suspense through interesting dialogue sequences and clever editing.…
This film was incredibly… interesting. It becomes clear quite early on that the film’s purpose is to NOT have a plot. The first scene is jarring and misleading, featuring a man who isn’t pictured in the remainder of the film staring at the moon and slicing through a woman’s eyeball. This film was adorable! It features a young man who we can immediately see is kind, a little goofy, and ambitious. At the start of the film, we see his ambition get him into a bit of trouble when he is framed by his rival for stealing his girlfriend’s father’s watch. The main characters desire to impress his girlfriend made the framing even more believable when he marked up the box of chocolates he gave her to the amount that,…
“Good Morning” was a beautiful slice of life type film that captured the essence of a small Japanese town in the 1950s. The film navigates a growing technological world as if effects tradition in the home and family life. It follows the husbands who drink and work; the wives who gossip and whisper from door to door; and their children who can’t get enough of the world’s latest wonder: television.
