The concept felt like a weird and random way of portraying the alleged theme of feminine independence and discovery. At times the film was uncomfortable, especially given the the nature of Bella's character and the looming sense that something sexual would likely occur. The film is nearly two and a half hours and yet the storyline felt rushed and characters—with perhaps the exception of Bella—underdeveloped. This is an adaptation of a novel. With that being said, the cinematography and acting are phenomenal. Lanthimos did wonders with what was given and the main cast fit their roles well.
