Eve's Bayou 1997
set in the wetlands of louisiana, this beautiful film tells the story of real family struggles. the authenticity in this film touched my heart and i imagine speaks to many families, parents, mothers… love and hate are so powerful that sometimes they feel like the same emotion! i really needed this film when i was a teenager.

this movie gets right into the “it’s your dream dad, NOT mine” …which is fine, but also like the only string in the movie, if you will? Like the climax is also still…your dream, NOT mine & it’s like…yeah we got that in the first 3 mins! I loved the animation, but the story (& dialogue) felt squished/pieced together. I think this is likely to fit the /comic book/ -theme of it all, but it definitely impacted the potential for a whole story….
