Very solid movie - distressing, necessary, and heartbreaking.
However, sometimes the style suffocated the substance a little too much for me, but it wasn’t distracting enough to detract from the story that RaMell Ross has carefully adapted.

Somewhat based on Kenneth Branagh’s childhood in Northern Ireland, this is a film that was destined to be a crowd-pleaser, and Branagh made sure it would be by sanitising and neutralising it to the highest degree. By making his protagonist a child amidst a war-zone, Branagh attempts to eschew any semblance of politics, but this is simply lazy and irresponsible for a filmmaker to do so.
