Bridget Jones's Diary 2001
I truly think that one of the most heartbreaking scenes in all of cinema is when Bridget’s parents are sat on the floor and Bridget’s mother is asking to be allowed back into Bridget’s fathers life. The geriatric mother character tends to be impermeable, existing only to be laughed at. Even though that is the case for most of this film, trilogy even, this scene cuts to the reality of ageing and I will forevs try to find a new reason to talk about the triumph of Bridget jones as social realist film/series.
