I could speak about this film forever. I first watched it when it came out in theatres in 2013, and was blown away by the DOP, and sound design. Then ended up writing my dissertation on it in college, a few years later.
The fact that there’s barely any dialogue and the storyline is so layered, speaks volumes on how well it was shot.
Scarlett’s character is an alien that has been sent to earth from her planet on a…
Phenomenal film. Brilliant and intense.
So happy to see Demi’s comeback🥹
Great view of how perfectionism leads to self destruction, and how you can be the cause of your own demise. Everything comes with a consequence. The tiny details of the film really pieced together perfectly throughout the storyline.
Panned out shots of her view from her apartment, with the reflections of her old self vs her new self shining bright as her old self became overshadowed and dimmer and more…
this movie was terrifying, i was anxious the whole time. the origin of Jessie’s story was so sad. she was truly stripped of being a child, which followed her into her adulthood. visually, the slow torture of all the little details throughout the movie kept me on the edge of my seat !
“you and your sunless world”
Jessie’s dynamic in her relationship are unspoken but pretty common amongst women, and it really showed the depths of how long something can be buried and how deeply it can affect someone long term in life.
I really felt touched by this father/daughter relationship. I related in a couple of different ways, as me and my mom have had conversations like theirs. The realness of what she can visually see on her old VHS recordings vs the reality of who her dad was and what he was going thru as a human being who was just trying to be there for her as a dad and didn’t wanna let her in all the way, as to not let her down, not realising children are observant enough to see pass the initial layers of people’s emotions.
PS, loved the visuals🩵💙
