The Band Wagon 1953
I went into this one very cautiously, knowing how much I dislike MGM musicals, especially Fred Astaire's. I didn't hate this, but it had all my usual pet peeves; the garish colours, the boring characters + romance, the unappealing music. The Talk of the Town 1942
A very cute watch thanks to the lead trio. I did not care much for the story or the sort of dry execution, but as has been remarked upon plenty, somehow everyone being in love with each other adds so much to this film. I'd also like to add how much I was floored by the character of Tilney; never have I seen an Old Hollywood movie centred on white people treat its sole black character with this much humanity (apart from Christmas in Connecticut, and that guy has like...2 lines).

Before Sunrise 1995
Unbelievably loathsome movie. A little over 90 minutes of absolutely nothing happening, apart from two people - one of whom is unfortunately Ethan Hawke - throwing absurd philosophical statements at each other. There is literally nothing here that is compelling, neither on an artistic nor an emotional level. It's the ultimate misogynistic sadboy fantasy. I hate very few movies but this has got to be one of them.
