  The Velvet Vampire 1971

  The acting is largely pretty stilted and awkward, the writing is clunky, and the editing makes me feel like I’m taking expired crazy pills AND YET this was a weirdly charming watch. What a fascinating movie to have released in 1971. Diane’s bisexuality is never demonized or seen as an inherent problem, just her being a vampire. The ending had some fascinating sound design that I found really interesting and would love to see revisited. Definitely worth a watch if you just temper your expectations.

  “You won’t even remember that you’re dying.”
  “This isn’t my home.”
  “I know there’s nothing in there, but I’m still too nervous to open up and check.”
  “I know it’s scary. That’s part of it.”
  “And then I was 21.”

  Scene after scene that left me less and less ok. I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced any piece of media like that, let alone a connection like this.
