  Patriotism 1966

  watched after reading Patriotism, (which I think is a must to accompany the film, it’s a short read just do it) especially after finding out Mishima’s direct involvement. 
  The film and book mirror each other pretty much exactly: intense, sickening, bold, erotic. It’s difficult to view without also being face to face with Mishima’s ultra right-wing nationalist views. As I’d seen another review mention, this is a case where separating the art from the artist is pretty much impossible. 
  You’re looking directly into a fascist’s wet dream that he’d later live out himself, but it’s hard to not to want to peek in.

  recommended by the sales clerk at a seaside used bookstore. he was watching it behind the counter between groaning every time the experimental jazz he was playing over the sound system was interrupted by ads. thanks bro
