Grand Theft Hamlet 2024
The greatest pandemic film ever made…. for the first half or so. When they begin forcing a narrative arc to raise the stakes, it begins to feel contrived and lackluster. Grand Theft Hamlet shines when it embraces the absurdity of its premise. I enjoyed it a lot. It’s inventive, fun, and tackles the loneliness of the pandemic in a not cringe way. All-around an exciting piece of new media art.

Asteroid City 2023
There’s always a little bit of shyness around my unironic enjoyment of Wes Anderson moobies. I can already see the eye rolls! But what can I do? His films are delightful. I find pleasure in their aesthetic vocabulary, their clever and sensitive writing, their eccentric personalities. I’m endeared to the way Anderson explores familial grief with humor and whimsy. It’s why The Darjeeling Limited is still one of my favorite films. (I’m due for a rewatch soon.)
